Honor is set to unveil its latest foldable smartphone, the Magic V3, on July 12th in China. The company has been teasing an even slimmer design than its predecessor, which could push the boundaries of foldable phone engineering.
Thinner Than Ever
The Honor Magic V2, launched in July 2023, currently holds the title of world's thinnest horizontal folding phone at just 4.7mm unfolded and 9.9mm folded. Honor claims the V3 will be even thinner, though exact dimensions have not been revealed. This would be a remarkable feat considering many standard smartphones are thicker than the V2's folded state.
Powerful Specs Expected
While not officially confirmed, rumors suggest the Magic V3 will feature:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor
- Up to 16GB of RAM
- 5,000mAh battery
- 66W fast charging
AI Features
Honor has teased AI capabilities for the Magic V3, including:
- AI eye protection
- AI anti-fraud measures
More Than Just a Phone
The July 12th event will also see the launch of:
- Honor Magic Vs3 (likely a more affordable foldable)
- MagicPad 2 tablet
- MagicBook Art 14 laptop
Global Availability
While the initial launch is for China, international fans hope Honor will reduce the gap between Chinese and global releases. The Magic V2 took eight months to reach global markets, a delay many found frustrating.
The Honor Magic V3 launch demonstrates the company's commitment to pushing foldable technology forward. With promises of an even thinner design and AI enhancements, it could be a strong contender in the growing foldable market. However, pricing and global availability will be crucial factors in its success outside of China.
Update: Friday July 05
The Honor Magic V3 will be available in four nature-inspired colors: Black (frosted matte glass), Green (frosted matte glass), White (glass with a light-reactive finish), and Dark Orange (vegan leather with gold accents). The vegan leather option is expected to be the lightest variant. Honor has hinted at a folded thickness of 9.Xmm and a weight of 22X grams for the Magic V3. The device will feature 5.5G cellular support and two-way satellite communication capabilities. Additionally, the camera setup is expected to include a triple rear camera system with a periscope telephoto lens.
