Camera Improvements

The standout feature is the new ZEISS co-engineered camera system:

  • Both models feature a 50MP main camera with OIS
  • V40 Pro uses a new Sony IMX921 sensor, while the V40 has a Samsung ISOCELL GNJ sensor
  • 50MP ultra-wide and 50MP selfie cameras on both devices
  • V40 Pro adds a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom

The cameras leverage ZEISS technology like Multifocal Portrait mode and improved bokeh effects. Vivo also highlighted an enhanced AI Aura Light for better low-light portraits.

Performance and Battery

Under the hood, the phones received minor chipset upgrades:

  • V40 Pro: MediaTek Dimensity 9200+
  • V40: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 (same as V30)

Both models now feature a larger 5,500 mAh battery, up from 5,000 mAh in the V30 series. Vivo claims this offers up to 63 hours of music playback. 80W fast charging is supported via FlashCharge technology.

Display and Design

The V40 and V40 Pro share similar designs, both sporting:

  • 6.78-inch AMOLED display
  • FHD+ resolution
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • 4,500 nits peak brightness

A new dual stereo speaker system promises improved audio quality.

Pricing and Availability

The Vivo V40 starts at ₹39,999 ($480 / €440) in India, while the V40 Pro is priced at ₹54,999 ($655 / €600). Multiple color options are available for both models.

While the camera system sees notable improvements, the V40 series represents a relatively incremental update over its predecessors. The larger battery and ZEISS partnership are the key selling points for these new devices.
