Google Pixel 9 Pro Series Hit by Widespread Bluetooth Issues

Google's latest flagship smartphones are facing significant connectivity challenges, with numerous users reporting Bluetooth-related problems across the Pixel 9 Pro lineup.

The issues, which seem to primarily affect the Pixel 9 Pro XL but have also been noted on the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, include:

  • Severely reduced Bluetooth range
  • Unstable audio connections
  • Difficulty maintaining connections with Android Auto
  • Static noise and sound dropouts
  • Random disconnections

These problems appear to be widespread, with multiple threads on Reddit and Google support forums documenting user frustrations. One Redditor noted, I've been using the Pixel Buds Pro without problems for the past two weeks and now it has terrible range all of a sudden for some reason.

While Google has not yet officially addressed the situation, the issue has been acknowledged on Android's bug tracker, suggesting the engineering team is investigating.

For affected users, some temporary solutions have been proposed:

  1. Ensure both your phone and Bluetooth devices are running the latest software updates.
  2. Disable ultra-wideband (UWB) by navigating to Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Ultra-wideband.
  3. Restart your device after making changes.

It's worth noting that the standard Pixel 9, which lacks UWB technology, doesn't seem to be experiencing these Bluetooth issues.

Interestingly, some users report that the problems began after installing the September security update, while others claim to have experienced issues from day one.

As Google works on a permanent fix, the tech community eagerly awaits an official statement and timeline for resolution. This situation serves as a reminder that even flagship devices from major manufacturers can face significant teething troubles upon release.

We've reached out to Google for comment and will update this article when we receive a response.
