AMD Unveils Radeon PRO V710: A Powerhouse GPU for Cloud Computing

AMD has made a significant move in the cloud computing space with the introduction of its new Radeon PRO V710 GPU. This powerful graphics processor is specifically designed for visual cloud applications and will be exclusively available through Microsoft Azure's cloud services.

Navi 32 Architecture and Impressive Specs

The Radeon PRO V710 is built on AMD's RDNA 3 architecture, utilizing the same Navi 32 GPU found in the consumer-grade RX 7700 XT. However, it boasts some key enhancements for data center use:

  • 54 compute units with 3456 stream processors
  • 28GB of GDDR6 VRAM (more than double the RX 7700 XT)
  • 224-bit memory interface
  • Up to 448 GB/s memory bandwidth
  • 54MB of Infinity Cache
  • Peak FP16 performance of 55.3 TFLOPs
  • Peak FP32 performance of 27.65 TFLOPs

Designed for the Data Center

Unlike its gaming counterparts, the V710 is optimized for cloud environments:

  • Single-slot, passively-cooled design
  • Compact 267mm (10.5) length
  • Low 158W TBP (Total Board Power)
  • White color scheme with specifications printed on the shroud

Versatile Cloud Workloads

The Radeon PRO V710 is tailored for a variety of cloud computing tasks:

  • AI inferencing
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
  • Remote workstations
  • Cloud gaming
  • Backed by AMD's ROCm 6 ecosystem

Microsoft Azure Integration

The V710 will be offered as part of Microsoft's NVads V710 v5-series virtual machines. These instances will pair the GPU with AMD EPYC 9374F (Genoa) processors, offering flexible configurations:

  • vCPU options from 4 to 28
  • Memory from 16GB to 160GB
  • Local storage up to 1536GB
  • Network bandwidth up to 20,000 Mbps

Customers can provision between one-sixth and a full V710 GPU instance, with corresponding VRAM allocations.

A Strategic Move for AMD

This launch underscores AMD's increasing focus on the lucrative data center market. By offering a specialized GPU for cloud services, AMD aims to capture a larger share of this growing segment while leaving the ultra-high-end consumer graphics market to competitors like NVIDIA.

The Radeon PRO V710 represents a significant step in AMD's enterprise GPU strategy, potentially paving the way for future unification between its Radeon gaming and Pro lineups where appropriate.
