The Origin Story

The G-Shock legacy began with Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe's personal mishap when his mechanical watch shattered upon falling. This incident inspired the creation of the original DW-5000C, designed with the ambitious triple 10 resistance concept - promising a decade of battery life, 10-bar water resistance, and survival from a 10-meter drop. This revolutionary approach transformed the watch industry's perspective on durability.

Faithful Recreation with Modern Touches

The new DW-5000R demonstrates Casio's commitment to preserving their heritage while embracing contemporary innovation. The watch maintains an almost identical visual appearance to its predecessor, from the precise dimple positioning on the watch strap to the iconic PROTECTION and G-SHOCK lettering on the bezel. However, the case size has been subtly increased to 42.3mm from the original 41.6mm, offering improved readability while maintaining the classic aesthetic.

Sustainable Innovation

In a nod to environmental consciousness, Casio has incorporated biomass plastic in the bezel and band construction. This eco-friendly adaptation maintains the watch's legendary durability while reducing its environmental impact. The integration of a high-brightness LED backlight system represents another modern upgrade, enhancing functionality without compromising the classic design.

Manufacturing and Availability

Maintaining its premium status, the DW-5000R is manufactured at Yamagata Casio, ensuring the highest quality standards. The watch will debut in Japan on December 13th, priced at ¥33,000 (approximately $217), representing a significant milestone in G-Shock's continuing evolution while honoring its foundational principles.

Performance and Specifications

The DW-5000R retains the robust feature set expected from a G-Shock, including 200-meter water resistance, shock resistance, and practical functions like a multi-functional alarm, countdown timer, and 1/100-second stopwatch. The watch's comfortable 76-gram weight and compact dimensions make it suitable for everyday wear while maintaining its legendary toughness.
