Asus ROG Flow Z13 2025 Embraces AMD's Ryzen AI Max APU, Ditches Dedicated GPU

Asus is revolutionizing its gaming tablet lineup with the announcement of the 2025 ROG Flow Z13, marking a significant shift in mobile gaming hardware design. The new model takes a bold step by removing the dedicated GPU in favor of AMD's cutting-edge Ryzen AI Max APU, promising powerful integrated graphics performance in an even more compact form factor.

Revolutionary Hardware Integration

The 2025 ROG Flow Z13 represents a significant departure from conventional gaming tablet design by integrating AMD's new Strix Halo processor. Available in two variants, the device offers either the Ryzen AI Max 390 at USD $1,999.99 or the top-tier Ryzen AI Max Plus 395 at USD $2,199.99. The premium model boasts an impressive 16 CPU cores and 40 RDNA 3.5 Compute Units, while the base model features 12 CPU cores and 32 graphics cores.

Enhanced Display and Design

The new Z13 features a 13.4-inch touchscreen with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and an upgraded 180Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The tablet's redesigned chassis is approximately 15% smaller than its predecessor, measuring just half an inch in thickness. A larger glass window on the rear showcases the motherboard with RGB lighting, adding a distinctive gaming aesthetic.

Cooling and Performance

Asus has implemented a redesigned stainless steel vapor chamber cooling system to handle the 120W TDP capability of the new APU. The improved airflow design results in a 70% increase in air movement and maintains cooler touch temperatures, with the screen surface running 1.3°C cooler than previous models.

Connectivity and Features

The device maintains impressive connectivity options with two USB 4 ports, one USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, HDMI 2.1, a UHS-II microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The tablet features Wi-Fi 7 capability and includes both 5MP front-facing and 13MP rear-facing cameras. Power delivery comes through a 200W proprietary adapter, though USB-C charging is also supported.

Gaming Performance

Initial testing shows promising gaming capabilities, with titles like Helldivers 2 running at 60fps at native 2.5K resolution with Ultra Quality settings. Performance naturally varies between plugged and unplugged states, with battery operation limiting the device to Performance mode instead of Turbo mode.

Improved User Experience

The 2025 model introduces a new detachable keyboard with larger keycaps and an expanded touchpad. A new ScreenXpert button provides quick access to display management and performance settings, enhancing the tablet's versatility in both gaming and productivity scenarios.
