Sony's New WF-C710N Earbuds Bring Premium Features at Budget-Friendly Price

Sony has refreshed its affordable wireless earbuds lineup with significant improvements while maintaining the same price point. The newly announced WF-C710N earbuds build upon last year's WF-C700N model by incorporating features previously reserved for Sony's higher-end audio products, offering consumers more value in the increasingly competitive wireless audio market.

Enhanced Noise Cancellation Technology

The WF-C710N earbuds address one of the main criticisms of their predecessors by implementing improved active noise cancellation. Sony has equipped the new model with Dual Noise Sensor technology that utilizes two external microphones to better detect and filter ambient noise. While these earbuds don't include the dedicated ANC processors found in Sony's premium offerings, the company claims substantial improvements in both noise cancellation and ambient sound mode performance, which should enhance the listening experience in noisy environments.

Significantly Improved Battery Life

Battery performance sees a substantial upgrade in the WF-C710N. With active noise cancellation enabled, the earbuds now provide 8.5 hours of continuous playback—an hour more than the previous model. When paired with the charging case, total listening time reaches an impressive 30 hours with ANC on, doubling the 15-hour capacity of the WF-C700N. With noise cancellation turned off, battery life extends even further to a maximum of 40 hours. Quick charging capabilities have also improved, requiring just 5 minutes in the case for an hour of playback, down from the 10 minutes needed by the previous generation.

Premium Features at Budget Price

Sony has incorporated several features from its higher-end models into the WF-C710N. The physical buttons have been replaced with customizable touch sensors that can control music playback, answer calls, adjust volume, or launch a preferred music application. The earbuds also include wear detection sensors that automatically pause audio when removed from the ears—a convenience typically found in more expensive models. Additionally, the WF-C710N supports multipoint connectivity, allowing simultaneous connection to two Bluetooth devices for seamless switching between sources.

Design and Durability

The WF-C710N maintains an IPX4 water resistance rating, making them resistant to splashes and sweat but not suitable for submersion. Sony offers the earbuds in four color options: classic black and white, pink, and a new transparent blue variant with clear plastic shells for both the earbuds and charging case, giving consumers more aesthetic choices than before.

Pricing and Availability

Despite the numerous improvements and added features, Sony has kept the price of the WF-C710N at USD $119.99—identical to the launch price of last year's model. This pricing strategy is particularly notable given the current trend of rising costs for consumer electronics. The earbuds are available for pre-order now, offering consumers an attractive option in the mid-range wireless earbuds market.
