Faster and Sharper Screen Sharing Experience
Google Meet's screen sharing functionality has received a comprehensive overhaul that addresses both speed and quality concerns. Users will now experience faster initiation when sharing desktops, windows, or browser tabs, eliminating the delays that previously interrupted meeting flow. The visual quality has also been enhanced significantly, with improved text clarity and smoother video playback during scrolling sessions. This upgrade ensures that presentations maintain their professional appearance regardless of the content being shared.
Streamlined User Interface and Smart Session Management
The platform's user interface has been refined to make screen sharing more intuitive. Google has enlarged the screen sharing button and repositioned it alongside other essential controls, making it easier for users to locate during meetings. Additionally, Meet now includes intelligent session management that automatically resumes previous screen sharing sessions when a second presenter concludes their presentation, eliminating awkward transitions and maintaining meeting continuity.
Direct External Camera Integration
One of the most significant additions is the ability to share content directly from external cameras, document cameras, and video production tools without requiring traditional screen sharing. This feature particularly benefits educational institutions and enterprises that rely on specialized equipment for presentations. Users must enable the Share content from camera option in Meet's General settings to access this functionality. The system supports Full HD resolution at 1080p and 30fps, ensuring professional-quality video streams.
Targeted Rollout for Workspace Users
These enhancements are specifically designed for Google Workspace subscribers, including Business, Enterprise, Frontline Standard, Enterprise Essentials, Education Plus, and individual Workspace users. The rollout began on June 4, 2025, for Rapid Release domains and will commence on June 11 for Scheduled Release domains. Google expects the complete deployment to take approximately 15 days across both release channels.
Expanding Meet's Capabilities
These improvements complement Google Meet's recent addition of real-time speech translation, which remains in beta for AI Pro subscribers. The translation feature currently supports English and Spanish, with plans to expand to Italian, German, and Portuguese. This continuous enhancement strategy demonstrates Google's commitment to maintaining Meet as a competitive enterprise communication solution, especially as the company prepares to sunset legacy Duo features in September 2025.
