Facepunch Studios has released a major update for Rust that addresses widespread player complaints about the recently introduced jungle biome being too dense to navigate effectively. The survival game's latest content patch brings significant changes to resource distribution, combat mechanics, and lighting systems based on community feedback.
Jungle Biome Receives Major Resource Overhaul
The jungle biome, introduced in Rust's previous major update, has undergone substantial modifications after players reported difficulty locating essential resources. Facepunch acknowledged that the jungle was a bit too good at being a jungle, making survival progression nearly impossible in the dense vegetation. Wild hemp plants now feature taller stalks and distinctive purple flowers for better visibility, while rock formations containing ore nodes have been increased throughout the biome. Berry bushes have received dedicated jungle populations to ensure food distribution remains balanced across all map areas.
Combat System Sees Comprehensive Rebalancing
The update introduces a complete rework of the silencer system, transforming these accessories from easily craftable items into precious resources. The original silencer has been made non-craftable, replaced by two new variants: soda can and oil filter silencers. These temporary alternatives last approximately 12 and 48 rounds respectively on standard assault rifles, forcing players to use stealth tactics more strategically. While both new silencers reduce damage and velocity, the high-end Military Silencer maintains full effectiveness.
Indoor Lighting System Receives Critical Updates
A long-standing gameplay imbalance has been addressed through a comprehensive indoor lighting overhaul. Previously, players inside buildings faced significant disadvantages during combat, as the lighting system darkened their view of the outside world while leaving them fully visible to external opponents. The new system provides more balanced visibility conditions, though Facepunch notes that some complex interior spaces still operate on the legacy system temporarily.
Building and Quality-of-Life Improvements
The update brings numerous construction enhancements, including improved line-of-sight checks that reduce placement errors when building. Wallpapers can now be applied to foundations, floors, and roof blocks for enhanced customization options. Wooden external walls and gates can be upgraded directly to Adobe without requiring intermediate stone construction. Additionally, large deployed items can be demolished within ten minutes of placement, while wires, hoses, and pipes can be snapped into clean orthogonal lines using the Left Shift key.
Monument Distribution and Spawn Changes
Map generation has been improved to address monument scarcity issues that worsened with the jungle update. Airfields, train yards, and excavators now appear more frequently across all map areas. New players will no longer spawn directly in the jungle biome unless they specifically choose to establish their base there, reducing the initial survival difficulty for newcomers.
Additional Gameplay Adjustments
The update extends food spoiling mechanics to fruits, vegetables, and eggs, which now last 48 hours outside refrigeration. Bow weapons in turrets have been nerfed to reduce early-game spam tactics, while wooden barricade stack sizes have been halved to five units to discourage excessive wall placement during PvP encounters. Server administrators gain new tools for managing high-population servers, including commands to adjust loot spawn scaling based on player count.
