Samsung's One UI 7 Update: Now Brief Feature May Expand to Older Galaxy Devices
Samsung's latest operating system update brings significant changes to its smartphone interface, with exciting new features that were initially exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series. As the Android 15-based One UI 7 prepares for wider release, evidence suggests that more devices may receive some of the premium features that were thought to be limited to Samsung's newest flagship phones.Comparing the displays of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus, showcasing the new features of One UI 7Now Brief Feature May Come to Older Samsung DevicesRecent discoveries in the One UI 7 beta suggest that the Galaxy AI-powered Now Brief feature, which debuted with the Galaxy S25 series, might be coming to older Samsung flagship devices. Beta testers have found that the settings panel for Now Brief is accessible on devices like the Galaxy S24, S23, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, and even as far back as the S10 series. While the feature isn't currently functional on these older devices, its presence in the settings menu strongly indicates that Samsung plans to expand this feature beyond the S25 lineup when the stable version of One UI 7 rolls out starting April 7 (April 10 in the US).What is Now Brief and Now Bar?Now Brief is part of Samsung's Galaxy AI suite and provides users with personalized daily information based on their lifestyle. This includes details about sleep patterns, energy levels, wallet-related reminders, birthday notifications, upcoming schedules, missed calls, weather updates, and more. It works alongside the new Now Bar, a dynamic UI element similar to Apple's Live Activities that highlights live notifications, music controls, modes, real-time sports updates, and other ongoing activities on the lock screen. The quick settings menu of a Samsung smartphone represents the interface changes and new features of One UI 7, including Now Brief and Now BarOne UI 7's Major Interface ChangesOne UI 7 introduces several significant interface changes, including a controversial split notification shade and quick settings panel that mimics iOS. By default, users now access notifications by swiping down from the left corner of the screen and quick settings from the right corner. However, Samsung has included an option to revert to the traditional unified panel that longtime users may prefer. This can be done by opening the Quick Settings menu, tapping the pencil icon, selecting Panel settings, and choosing Together instead of Separate.Vertical App Drawer Finally AvailableAfter years of user requests, Samsung has finally added the option for vertical scrolling in the app drawer with One UI 7. This long-awaited feature, which many users consider more natural and which most other Android manufacturers already offer, can be enabled by opening the app drawer, tapping the three vertical dots in the search box, choosing Sort, and selecting Alphabetical order. The new vertical scrolling option in the app drawer of Samsung One UI 7 allows for easier app arrangement, enhancing the user experienceOne UI 7 Rollout ScheduleThe stable release of One UI 7 is set to begin on April 7 globally (April 10 in the US), starting with the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The update will then expand to the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S10 and Tab S9 series tablets in the following weeks. This staged rollout approach allows Samsung to ensure stability across its diverse device portfolio.Additional Galaxy AI FeaturesBeyond Now Brief and Now Bar, One UI 7 brings several other Galaxy AI features to compatible devices, including cross-app action, Audio Eraser, Auto Trim, and AI Drawing Assist. While some features may remain exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung appears to be working to bring many of these innovations to older flagship devices, enhancing their functionality and extending their useful life.
