Desktop Integration of 'Help me write'
Google has finally bridged the gap between mobile and desktop experiences by introducing the popular 'Help me write' feature to Gmail's web version. This AI-powered writing assistant, previously exclusive to mobile users, now enables desktop users to draft emails from scratch using simple prompts, making email composition more efficient across all platforms.
New Polish Feature Introduction
The company has rebranded its 'Refine my draft' feature to 'Polish,' introducing a more streamlined approach to email refinement. This new feature automatically activates for any draft containing more than 12 words, offering users quick access to AI-powered improvements. Desktop users can trigger this feature using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+H, while mobile users can access it through a simple right swipe.
Enhanced Editing Capabilities
The Polish feature provides various refinement options, allowing users to modify their drafts for different communication styles. Users can make their emails more formal, elaborate on specific points, or condense their message for brevity. The system presents the improved version for review, with a convenient 'Replace' button to implement changes.
Availability and Access Requirements
These AI enhancements aren't available to all Gmail users by default. Access requires specific subscriptions, including the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on, or Google One AI Premium. The rollout began this week and is expected to complete within a 15-day period.
Integration with Broader AI Strategy
This update aligns with Google's broader strategy to integrate Gemini AI across its services, including recent developments for iOS users. The company continues to enhance its email service capabilities, maintaining Gmail's position as one of the leading email platforms while carefully balancing functionality with user accessibility.
