Oppo has officially launched its Reno 12 series smartphones globally, bringing AI capabilities to a wider audience at more affordable price points. The new lineup, consisting of the Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro, aims to democratize AI features typically reserved for flagship devices.
Design and Display
Both models sport a 6.7-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 1200 nits peak brightness. The Reno 12 Pro takes things up a notch with its Infinite View Screen - a micro quad-curved display that creates an almost bezel-less look while maintaining accidental touch protection.

Performance
Powering the Reno 12 series is MediaTek's Dimensity 7300-Energy chipset, a 4nm processor tailored for AI tasks. This marks a departure from the Chinese variants, which used more powerful Dimensity 8250 and 9200+ chips. While this may disappoint some, Oppo claims the custom chip delivers excellent AI performance with improved power efficiency.
Camera Capabilities
The camera system is a highlight, featuring:
- 50MP main camera (Sony LYT-600 sensor) with OIS
- 8MP ultrawide camera
- 50MP telephoto camera (Reno 12 Pro only)
- 32MP front-facing camera
Oppo has implemented several AI-powered camera features:
- AI Eraser 2.0: Removes unwanted objects from photos
- AI Clear Face: Enhances group shots
- AI Best Face: Fixes closed eyes in group photos
- AI Studio: Creates digital avatars and applies creative styles

Battery and Charging
Both models pack a 5000mAh battery with 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging, promising a full charge in just 46 minutes.
Software and AI Features
Running on ColorOS 14.1 based on Android 14, the Reno 12 series leverages Google's Gemini language model to power various AI tools:
- AI Toolbox: Analyzes on-screen content and suggests relevant AI features
- Recording Summary: Transcribes and organizes voice recordings
- AI Writer: Generates content for emails, social media, and more
Pricing and Availability
- Reno 12: €499 (12GB RAM / 256GB storage)
- Reno 12 Pro: €599 (12GB RAM / 512GB storage)
The devices will be available in Europe and the UK later this month, with a gradual rollout to other markets.
The Verdict
While the Reno 12 series may not match the raw power of its Chinese counterparts, Oppo's focus on accessible AI features and competitive pricing could make these devices attractive options for users looking to experience the benefits of on-device AI without breaking the bank.
